Love gives birth to all other values in the teachings of Jesus.

First John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” A few verses later we read, “Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (v. 16).

Love is the greatest—the supreme reality and the most excellent way (1 Corinthians 13:13). All other virtues find their place in the spectrum of goodness that is God’s love. They are the manifold colors in the rainbow of love.

No one had such a comprehensive view of love as Jesus did. John Lennon could not envision that the created order existed because of love. But Jesus did, and so must we.
